A new era for the Royal Docks

The Royal Docks in East London are one of the most iconic and historically significant dock systems in the world and at the heart of one of London’s most ambitious regeneration programmes. As we step into a new chapter, the Royal Docks Management Authority (RoDMA) is seeking a Chair to help shape the future of this unique urban water space.

RoDMA is a not-for-profit organisation with responsibility for managing the operation of the water and the upkeep of critical infrastructure within the docks. We hold a 225-year lease and raise income via a service charge and commercial activity, investing surplus funds into a 30-year plan for major asset refurbishment.

With around £10bn of planned development in the pipeline, the Royal Docks is set to become one of the most significant regeneration zones in London, led by the Royal Docks Team on behalf of the Mayor of London and the Mayor of Newham.

This is where you come in

As Chair, you will provide strategic and inclusive leadership to the Board, support and challenge the Managing Director, and be an ambassador for RoDMA at key meetings and events. With four Board meetings per year and regular touchpoints with the MD, you will guide us through key governance decisions, build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, and help shape the next era for the docks.

This is a leadership position that requires insight and experience but not ego. You’ll be an experienced Non-Executive Director, a collaborator, with a strong grasp of governance, sound judgment, and an understanding of working with public and private stakeholders. You’ll bring clarity, independence, and a steady hand as we move into a phase of significant change.

Importantly, you’ll bring a strong track record of development and commercial delivery in complex, multi-stakeholder environments, and be confident guiding strategic decisions with long-term impact.

This is a rare opportunity to play a leading role in one of London’s most exciting and distinctive regeneration stories.
